Lewis Hamilton has climbed one place in the official classification of the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix after the FIA confirmed a post-race disqualification that reshaped the final results at the Hungaroring.
The Ferrari driver had originally finished lower than hoped after a five-second time penalty hurt his chances during the race. However, following the FIA’s post-race investigations, another competitor was disqualified, allowing Hamilton to gain a position in the final standings.
Although the adjustment did not affect the winner of the race, it handed Hamilton additional championship points and provided Ferrari with a valuable boost in both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ title battles.
The FIA announced the revised classification after completing its routine post-race technical inspections, with officials determining that one car failed to comply with Formula 1’s technical or sporting regulations. Under FIA regulations, the offending driver was removed from the results, triggering changes throughout the final order.
For Hamilton, the revised result offers some consolation after a difficult afternoon in Budapest. The seven-time world champion had demonstrated encouraging pace over the weekend but saw his race compromised by a time penalty that limited his finishing position.
While the promotion cannot erase the frustration of the race itself, the extra points could prove important as the 2026 championship battle continues, with every position becoming increasingly significant in the fight for both individual and team honours.
