Lewis Hamilton Handed Major Boost as Fresh F1 Championship Twist Emerges

Lewis Hamilton’s hopes of securing a record-breaking eighth Formula 1 world championship have received a timely boost as the 2026 season heads into its summer break, with growing belief that the title race is far from over.

Although the Ferrari driver trails Mercedes sensation Kimi Antonelli by 50 points after 11 races, the championship battle has taken on a new dimension following McLaren’s resurgence. Reigning world champion Lando Norris returned to winning form with a dominant victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix, prompting former Formula 1 driver Christian Danner to suggest Antonelli’s biggest challenge may come from Norris rather than Hamilton.

That shift in focus could work in Hamilton’s favour.

With 12 races still remaining, the seven-time world champion remains firmly in contention despite a frustrating Hungarian Grand Prix, where a questionable Ferrari strategy and a pit-lane speeding penalty dropped him from a potential podium finish to fifth place. Hamilton admitted he was disappointed with the outcome but insisted the team would regroup during the summer break.

Ferrari are also optimistic that further development will improve the SF26 in the second half of the campaign, particularly in straight-line speed—an area Hamilton believes has cost the team valuable points throughout the season.

While Antonelli remains the championship favourite, Norris’ improved pace means the Mercedes rookie could soon find himself under pressure from multiple rivals. If the leaders continue taking points from one another, Hamilton could steadily reduce the deficit and reignite his title challenge.

With the Dutch Grand Prix next on the calendar after the summer break, the battle for the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship appears wide open, and Hamilton will be determined to capitalize on every opportunity as Ferrari chase a remarkable comeback.
