FIA Confirms Amended Italian GP Results After Late Penalty at Monza
The FIA has officially published the final classification of the 2026 Italian Grand Prix, confirming the results after a series of post-race investigations and a late penalty at Monza.

Kimi Antonelli retained his historic victory for Mercedes, completing a remarkable recovery from 19th on the starting grid to win his home Italian Grand Prix. George Russell finished second, giving Mercedes a memorable one-two finish, while Max Verstappen completed the podium in third.

The top five remained unchanged, with Lando Norris taking fourth for McLaren ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri. Lewis Hamilton finished sixth for Ferrari, followed by Pierre Gasly, Arvid Lindblad, Franco Colapinto and Yuki Tsunoda.

However, the final classification included a five-second penalty for Sergio Perez. The Cadillac driver was penalised for failing to follow the Race Director’s prescribed route after going off the track at Turns 1 and 2. The FIA Stewards ruled that Perez had breached Article 12.2.1.i of the International Sporting Code and the Race Director’s Competition Notes.

Despite the penalty, Perez remained classified 18th in the final results, with Valtteri Bottas behind him in 19th. The penalty therefore did not change the positions of the drivers immediately ahead of or behind him.

Another major post-race decision involved Tsunoda. The Racing Bulls driver had been investigated after an extra formation lap was required before the restart. The Stewards ultimately decided to take no further action, concluding that Tsunoda was not directly responsible for the extra formation lap and that neither he nor his team had been informed that they were considered responsible.

The FIA also investigated several other incidents, including an alleged failure by Russell to slow for yellow flags and an incident involving Liam Lawson and Nico Hulkenberg. Those cases did not result in changes to the final classification.

The FIA’s final document was issued at 20:25 CET on September 6, confirming the classification, although the document notes that Audi had indicated its intention to appeal the Tsunoda decision.
