The FIA has officially confirmed the starting order for Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix following post-qualifying penalties for Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli.
Formula 1 heads into the 11th round of the 2026 season at the Hungaroring before the sport’s four-week summer break. Several title contenders were hoping to finish the first half of the campaign strongly, but grid penalties have reshuffled the front of the field.
Lando Norris will lead the field away from pole position after producing a stunning qualifying lap to edge the Ferraris. Lewis Hamilton originally qualified second but was handed a three-place grid penalty after FIA stewards ruled that he unnecessarily impeded Oscar Piastri during Q3. The sanction drops the Ferrari driver to fifth on the grid.
Mercedes youngster Kimi Antonelli also received a three-place grid penalty after failing to reduce his speed sufficiently under yellow flag conditions during qualifying. As a result, he will line up seventh instead of fourth.
The revised grid promotes Charles Leclerc to the front row alongside Norris, while Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen move up to third and fourth respectively. George Russell also gains a position and will start sixth.
Elsewhere, Fernando Alonso reached Q2 for the first time this season in Aston Martin’s upgraded AMR26, but the Spaniard could only qualify 16th after missing out on further progress.
