From zero cars to his “dream car”*

Just last year at the 2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Hamilton revealed he had sold his entire multi-million dollar road car collection. The garage once held a Pagani Zonda 760LH, Ferrari LaFerrari, Mercedes-AMG Project One, McLaren F1 and a 1966 Shelby Cobra, worth an estimated £13M. He said he was “more into art” nowadays. That exception became reality in 2026. Hamilton tracked down a 1991 F40 that had sat covered in dust in a private garage for over 30 years. The previous owner had reportedly driven it 69km from Maranello and never started it again. 145b353d836a

   The Maranello restoration*

Instead of keeping it as a dusty “art piece”, Hamilton sent it straight to Ferrari’s factory in Maranello. Ferrari’s Classiche engineers and mechanics spent weeks doing an engine-out teardown and restoration to bring it back to life. 836a3581353d

Hamilton called it “the car of my dreams and has been for as long as I can remember”. He said when they took it apart, “hardly anything had to be changed” and the engine even had his race number 44 on it. The finished car now wears a personalised “44” plate. 145b836a174b

  The Monza debut and what’s next*

Hamilton made his statement arrival at the Italian GP in Monza, driving the freshly restored F40 into the paddock. He stepped out in a black suit, tan overcoat and Kangol beret as photographers swarmed the iconic wedge-shaped supercar.
