Charles Leclerc Confirms Ferrari Exit Talks as F1 Star Admits ‘Other

Charles Leclerc has confirmed that he had opportunities to leave Ferrari before committing his future to the Italian giants, revealing that his manager held talks with rival Formula 1 teams.

The Monegasque driver is set to complete his eighth season with Ferrari by the end of 2026 and has already agreed a new contract with the team after signing an extension in June.

However, Leclerc’s latest admission makes clear that his decision to remain at Maranello was not made without considering alternatives.

Speaking on the Beyond the Grid podcast ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, Leclerc explained that although he did not personally negotiate with rival teams, his management team explored what options were available in the F1 market.

Leclerc admits Ferrari alternatives existed

Leclerc made it clear that his commitment to Ferrari did not mean other opportunities were ignored.

While the 28-year-old ultimately chose to continue with the Scuderia, his manager was involved in conversations with other teams to assess the possibilities available to the Ferrari star.

That revelation adds another layer to Leclerc’s long-term relationship with Ferrari, particularly given the intense expectations surrounding the team’s pursuit of championship success.

Since making his Ferrari debut in 2019, Leclerc has established himself as one of the central figures of the Scuderia’s modern era. Yet despite several race victories and numerous pole positions, a first world championship with Ferrari has remained out of reach.

Ferrari still has Leclerc’s full commitment

Despite exploring his options, Leclerc has ultimately chosen to stay in red.

His decision represents a significant vote of confidence in Ferrari’s direction, particularly as the team prepares for another important phase of Formula 1 competition.

The timing is also significant, with Leclerc heading into the Italian Grand Prix as Ferrari’s home hero. Monza remains one of the most emotionally charged weekends of the season for the Scuderia, and Leclerc will be targeting a third victory at the legendary circuit.

For Ferrari, keeping Leclerc is crucial. The Monegasque remains one of the sport’s most highly rated drivers and is viewed as a potential championship contender if the team can provide him with a consistently competitive car.

Rival teams were clearly watching

Leclerc’s admission also highlights just how attractive his services remain across the F1 paddock.

With the driver market becoming increasingly competitive, Ferrari’s rivals were clearly prepared to investigate whether there was a route to signing one of the grid’s fastest qualifiers.

Ultimately, however, those discussions did not result in a Ferrari departure.

Leclerc’s future is now tied to Maranello, leaving Ferrari with the responsibility of delivering a car capable of matching his ambitions.

For a driver who has already demonstrated his loyalty to the Scuderia, the next chapter will be judged not by whether he could have left — but by whether Ferrari can finally give him a genuine opportunity to fight for the Formula 1 world championship.
