F1 Monaco Grand Prix Result Could Be Changed AGAIN as FIA Announce New Hearin
18 August 2026 โ Just In: The controversial 2026 Monaco Grand Prix result is facing another potential shake-up after the FIA confirmed a fresh hearing involving McLaren and Red Bull.
The latest development comes more than two months after the race, which became embroiled in controversy over pit-lane speeding penalties and the accuracy of the timing system used at the Monaco circuit. The FIA has now confirmed that the International Court of Appeal will hear appeals from both teams on Tuesday, August 25, at 9:00am local time in Paris.
Gasly’s controversial penalty started the saga
The dispute centres on Alpine’s Pierre Gasly, who finished the Monaco race on the road in third place but was initially given two five-second penalties for pit-lane speeding.
Those penalties dropped Gasly from third to seventh in the original classification, allowing Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar to inherit the podium position.
However, Alpine challenged the decision after new information emerged concerning inaccuracies in the pit-lane timing measurements. The FIA subsequently accepted that there was significant and relevant new evidence that had not been available to the original stewards.
Gasly’s penalties were then rescinded and the official classification was changed, restoring him to third place. Hadjar consequently moved to fourth, while McLaren’s Oscar Piastri dropped to fifth.
Red Bull and McLaren refuse to let it end
That revised result did not close the controversy.
Red Bull and McLaren subsequently lodged appeals against the stewards’ decision to remove Gasly’s penalties. The FIA has now scheduled their case before the International Court of Appeal in Paris.
The teams are effectively seeking to have the original penalties reinstated. If their appeals succeed, Gasly could once again lose his Monaco podium and the positions behind him would be reshuffled.
What about Mercedes?
Mercedes had also attempted to challenge aspects of the Monaco result after the penalty controversy affected George Russell. However, the team later withdrew its Right of Review request concerning Russell’s penalty.
That leaves the latest FIA hearing primarily focused on McLaren and Red Bull’s appeals against Gasly’s reinstatement.
Current Monaco result
For now, the classification remains:
1. Kimi Antonelli โ Mercedes
2. Lewis Hamilton โ Ferrari
3. Pierre Gasly โ Alpine
4. Isack Hadjar โ Red Bull
5. Oscar Piastri โ McLaren
That result is still subject to the outcome of the August 25 hearing.
The bigger issue for F1
This is no longer simply about whether Gasly deserves third place. The Monaco controversy has raised serious questions about how pit-lane speeds were calculated and how penalties should be handled when the underlying timing data is later found to be inaccurate.
The FIA’s own documents confirmed that the information about inaccurate distance measurements was new and directly relevant to Gasly’s alleged pit-lane speed infringement.
The reality: the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix is still not completely settled. The winner, Kimi Antonelli, and runner-up, Lewis Hamilton, are not the immediate focus of this latest appeal, but the battle for third place could change again. If Red Bull and McLaren succeed on August 25, Pierre Gasly could lose his restored podium once more, making Monaco one of the most legally complicated races of the 2026 F1 season.
