Just in: Max Verstappen Reveals ‘Genius’ Plan to Save Red Bull’s 2026 Sea…read more

The FIA have announced a penalty verdict for both Mercedes Formula 1 drivers following a team mishap during qualifying for this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix.

Four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen has jokingly revealed what could be described as a “genius” plan to help Red Bull Racing accelerate its development during a difficult 2026 campaign.

With Red Bull struggling to match the pace of their rivals, Verstappen humorously suggested that the team could spend less on catering in order to free up more money for car upgrades under Formula 1’s strict budget cap.

Red Bull’s difficult season has left Verstappen without a Grand Prix victory so far in 2026. The team currently sits fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, with the Dutchman often battling midfield rivals instead of fighting at the front against Scuderia Ferrari and Mercedes.

Although Red Bull introduced a package of upgrades at the Austrian Grand Prix, the changes have yet to deliver the performance boost the team had hoped for.

Speaking after qualifying, Verstappen joked about how Red Bull could squeeze more development into Formula 1’s financial regulations.

“Is that possible with the budget cap? Yes, of course,” Verstappen said. “Then we’ll just have to spend a little less on catering!”

Behind the joke lies a serious challenge. Despite recent FIA findings indicating Red Bull still has one of the strongest power units on the grid, the team has struggled to convert that advantage into race-winning pace.

The disappointing results have also fueled speculation over Verstappen’s future. His manager has confirmed that the reigning world champion’s contract includes performance-related exit clauses, potentially allowing him to leave if Red Bull fails to return to championship-winning form.

New team principal Laurent Mekies now faces the crucial task of leading Red Bull back to the front and convincing Verstappen that the team can once again fight for race wins and world titles.

As the second half of the 2026 season approaches, Red Bull’s next upgrades could prove decisive—not only for their championship hopes, but also for Verstappen’s long-term future with the team.
