Lewis Hamilton Gives Brother Nicolas the ‘Opportunity of a Lifetime’ with Emotional Ferrari F1 Experience

By Hugo Harvey

Lewis Hamilton has created another unforgettable Ferrari moment away from the Formula 1 race weekend, this time by giving his brother, Nicolas Hamilton, what he described as the “opportunity of a lifetime” at Ferrari’s famous Fiorano test circuit.

Fresh from celebrating his breakthrough Formula 1 victory with Ferrari at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, the seven-time world champion returned to Italy for a special private outing with the Scuderia. While fans were initially puzzled after Hamilton was spotted driving Ferrari’s rare three-seater Formula 1 car at Fiorano, the mystery has now been solved.

It was not a promotional event or a routine demonstration. Instead, it was a deeply personal experience arranged by Hamilton for his younger brother Nicolas, who was invited to ride in the unique three-seater Formula 1 machine with Lewis behind the wheel.

The emotional moment was later revealed by Nicolas on social media, where he shared photographs of the brothers smiling together beside the Ferrari before climbing into the historic car.

Nicolas Hamilton, who has built an inspiring racing career of his own despite living with cerebral palsy, described the invitation as one of the greatest experiences of his life.

According to Nicolas, Lewis personally contacted him with an offer he simply could not refuse.

“Lewis called and offered me the opportunity of a lifetime,” Nicolas wrote. “To be a passenger in a three-seater Ferrari Formula One car, with him driving!”

The invitation saw Nicolas travel to Fiorano, Ferrari’s legendary private test facility, where generations of Ferrari drivers have prepared for Formula 1 campaigns. For someone who has spent decades watching his brother race from the garage and the pit wall, the experience carried enormous emotional significance.

Nicolas revealed that he became the very first passenger in the car during the session and admitted the moment almost felt unreal.

“I flew out to Fiorano and was the first in the car. I could not believe it,” he explained.

“The craziest moment was that I have been standing behind Lewis’ F1 car in the garage for years, but this time, I found myself lowering myself into the car, just behind his right shoulder. It was a very surreal moment.”

The Ferrari used for the experience was based on a 2005 Formula 1 machine powered by one of the sport’s iconic naturally aspirated V10 engines. Those engines remain legendary among Formula 1 fans because of their unforgettable sound and raw performance before the championship switched to V8 and later hybrid power units.

Nicolas admitted the incredible noise and acceleration left an immediate impression.

“The car was from 2005 with a V10 engine. As the run started, I was just blown away by the sound and the speed.”

However, once the initial excitement settled, Nicolas said he found himself doing something entirely different.

“But I quickly found myself going into proud brother mode, where I just watched Lewis drive.”

The heartfelt comments offered a touching reminder of the close relationship between the Hamilton brothers, who have shared a lifelong passion for motorsport.

Nicolas has followed Lewis throughout virtually every stage of his remarkable career, from childhood karting events through the junior categories and eventually Formula 1, where Lewis has become one of the most successful drivers in the history of the sport.

Reflecting on that journey, Nicolas explained that riding alongside Lewis finally allowed him to understand exactly what his brother experiences behind the wheel.

“After being a part of his career for 34 years, being at every circuit with him as a kid, through karting, all the way to Formula One, I finally got to experience what all the hard work was for and what it felt like to be him.”

Despite their family connection, Nicolas admitted he still views Lewis with enormous admiration.

“Even though he is my brother, I am also a fan, his No. 1 fan and in awe of his talent.”

The emotional day carried even greater meaning considering Nicolas’ own remarkable achievements in motorsport.

Diagnosed with a form of cerebral palsy as a child, Nicolas initially relied on a wheelchair before pursuing a career in racing against significant odds. He later became the first disabled driver to compete full-time in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), inspiring countless fans with his determination and resilience.

His recent success in claiming the Jack Sears Trophy further demonstrated his ability to compete at a high level despite the challenges he has faced throughout his life.

For Lewis, the Ferrari experience appeared to be a heartfelt way of sharing one of Formula 1’s most exclusive opportunities with someone who has supported him from the very beginning.

The timing also reflected Hamilton’s growing confidence at Ferrari following his recent victory in Barcelona, a result that eased much of the pressure after a difficult first campaign with the Scuderia.

While Hamilton continues chasing further success on the track, his latest gesture has reminded fans that some of the sport’s most memorable moments happen away from race weekends.

Summing up the unforgettable experience, Nicolas wrote: “I got to experience being driven in a Ferrari Formula One car at the Ferrari F1 test track by the best driver of this generation. What an honour and a privilege. A day and a moment that I will never forget.”

For the Hamilton family, it was far more than just another Ferrari test. It was the fulfilment of a dream shared by two brothers whose passion for racing has connected them since childhood, creating a memory that neither is likely to forget.
