Guenther Steiner has opened up about the unexpected circumstances surrounding his departure from Haas, revealing where he was when he received the call that changed everything.
Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has revealed the bizarre circumstances surrounding the moment he learned that his contract with the Formula 1 team would not be renewed.
Steiner recalled receiving the call from team owner Gene Haas while he was out shopping with his wife.
The former team boss admitted that he was not completely surprised by the decision, explaining that his relationship with Haas had deteriorated over time because he disagreed with the direction the team was taking.
“The relationship wasn’t good there for a while,” Steiner explained. “It was not what it was at the beginning, because I didn’t agree with the vision of the team.”
Steiner also revealed that he had tried to offer ideas to change the situation, but felt his suggestions were not welcomed.
Despite the shock of losing his position, Steiner said he quickly moved on and even felt happier the following morning.
“I slept perfectly and I was even happier the next morning when I got up because for me, a new world opened,” he said.
Steiner also pointed to Haas’ improvement in 2024, arguing that the foundations for that progress had been laid during his time at the team, alongside other members of staff who later departed.
His latest comments provide a fascinating insight into the dramatic end of his time at Haas and the relationship that had gradually broken down behind the scenes.
