The FIA has officially ratified the final results of the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix after reviewing a number of post-race penalties, confirming Lando Norris as the race winner and extending Lewis Hamilton’s run of frustration with the stewards.
Norris produced a flawless drive for McLaren at the Hungaroring to claim his first Formula 1 victory of the season. He crossed the line ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, while Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli recovered impressively from a pre-race grid penalty to secure the final podium position.
Hamilton, meanwhile, endured another difficult weekend. Before the race, both the Ferrari driver and Antonelli were handed three-place grid penalties by the FIA, dropping Hamilton to fifth on the grid and Antonelli to seventh.
The seven-time world champion admitted before Sunday’s race that recent stewarding decisions had left him feeling unable to “catch a break,” sharing his disappointment on social media.
Despite battling his way through the field, Hamilton’s race was compromised late on after he exceeded the pit-lane speed limit by just 0.1 km/h. The FIA issued a five-second penalty, preventing him from improving beyond fifth place in the final classification. It marked his fourth penalty across the last three race weekends.
Haas driver Oliver Bearman also received a five-second penalty after the stewards ruled that he failed to respect blue flags. The sanction dropped him to 19th in the final results.

Charles Leclerc also claimed the fastest lap for Ferrari, setting a 1:22.000 on lap 58.
Formula 1 Enters the Summer Break
With the Hungarian Grand Prix concluded, Formula 1 now begins its mandatory summer shutdown, a period during which teams must suspend most development activities before the championship resumes.
The 2026 campaign will restart at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. The weekend begins on Friday, August 21, with the opening practice session and Sprint Qualifying. Sprint racing and Grand Prix qualifying take place on Saturday, August 22, before Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix on August 23, which is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. CEST (2:00 p.m. BST).
Following a dramatic weekend in Budapest featuring penalties, recoveries and changing fortunes, the focus now shifts to Zandvoort, where the fight for the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship will continue after the summer break.
