BREAKING: Lewis Hamilton Handed Huge F1 Title Boost as Mercedes F1 Stars S…read more

Lewis Hamilton has been handed a major boost in his bid for an eighth Formula 1 world championship after Ferrari showed encouraging pace at the Dutch Grand Prix, while Mercedes continues to face pressure from its rivals.

Hamilton arrives at Zandvoort second in the drivers’ championship, 50 points behind Mercedes teenager Kimi Antonelli after the opening 11 rounds of the 2026 season. However, Hamilton’s title hopes received fresh encouragement during Friday’s only practice session. Antonelli topped the timesheets for Mercedes, but Hamilton finished fourth for Ferrari, just 0.190 seconds off the pace. George Russell was third, giving Mercedes two cars inside the top three, but Ferrari’s performance suggested Hamilton may have the machinery to challenge the Silver Arrows over the second half of the season. Ferrari has also introduced multiple upgrades for the Dutch Grand Prix as it looks to close the performance gap to Mercedes. The team’s development push is particularly significant for Hamilton, who is chasing his first championship since 2020 and has repeatedly stressed his belief that Ferrari can compete for the title this year. The situation could make the championship battle increasingly tense. Mercedes currently leads both championships and has dominated qualifying throughout much of the season. Antonelli has also built a sizeable advantage after an outstanding first half of the campaign. (Reuters)

Yet Hamilton has already demonstrated that he can defeat Mercedes when the opportunity arises. His victory in Barcelona marked his first Grand Prix win for Ferrari and made him the first driver to beat Mercedes on a Sunday during the early part of the season. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff subsequently described Hamilton as “absolutely” a title threat. (Formula 1® – The Official F1® Website)

The Dutch Grand Prix is therefore a crucial opportunity for Hamilton to reduce the championship deficit. With the weekend featuring a Sprint, there are additional points available, meaning a strong performance could significantly alter the standings.

Hamilton’s challenge remains difficult, but Ferrari’s progress has given the seven-time champion renewed hope. With 11 rounds already completed and the second half of the season now underway, the battle between Hamilton and the Mercedes stars could become one of the defining stories of the 2026 F1 campaign.
