BREAKING: Kimi Antonelli Sends Shock Warning to Hamilton and Verstappen at Dutch GP
20 minutes ago — Zandvoort, Netherlands
Kimi Antonelli has wasted no time making his presence felt at the Dutch Grand Prix, putting Mercedes at the top of the timesheets in the only practice session before Sprint Qualifying.
The 19-year-old championship leader produced a 1:12.949, finishing 0.121 seconds ahead of Lando Norris and 0.142 seconds ahead of Mercedes teammate George Russell. Lewis Hamilton was fourth, 0.190 seconds behind Antonelli, while Charles Leclerc completed the top five.
The result immediately puts Antonelli under the spotlight heading into the crucial Sprint Qualifying session. He already holds a 50-point championship advantage over Hamilton, making every session increasingly important as the season enters its second half.
Hamilton, meanwhile, made a strong start for Ferrari by finishing fourth, keeping himself within striking distance of the Mercedes pair. But the bigger surprise came from Max Verstappen.
The Dutchman endured a difficult session on home soil, finishing 11th after struggling with the handling of his Red Bull and even running through the gravel.
That result does not mean Verstappen is out of contention. With Sprint Qualifying still to come, the four-time world champion has plenty of opportunities to fight back. But Antonelli’s pace has already delivered an early warning to the entire field.
And there is another reason this weekend is attracting huge attention: Zandvoort is hosting its final scheduled Dutch Grand Prix, making every moment of the weekend particularly significant.
For Mercedes, the message is clear: Antonelli has returned from the summer break ready to fight.
For Hamilton and Ferrari, the challenge is equally clear.
The championship leader has fired the first shot at Zandvoort — and the real battle is only beginning.
NOTE: There is currently no confirmed penalty against Antonelli, Hamilton, Norris, Russell or Verstappen from this practice result. The major story is their pace and positions, not a disqualification or penalty.
