Max Verstappen is taking on one of his most unusual racing challenges yet at Silverstone tonight, going head-to-head with 100 karting rivals in a 30-lap showdown.
The four-time F1 world champion will start P101 on the grid for ‘Max vs 100’, with one simple task: pass every single one of his 100 rivals before the chequered flag.
The event gets underway at 6pm UK time at the iconic home of the British Grand Prix, with karters, influencers, athletes, celebrities and content creators all taking on the Red Bull superstar.

17:59 — Last pre-race word to Max on his grid box. “This is crazy, it’s far”. We predict it might look like a long way but in reality not. Max wins, easily. Just a question of how early.
17:57 — Excitement is at fever pitch. Three minutes to lights out. The sun is shining and the Disney broadcast team are beside themselves.
17:53 — Seven minutes to lights out. If Max can see them from way back in his P101 grid slot.
17:52 — Verstappen has a message for Jacky: “I’m coming for you”. Let’s see how long it takes. He also says he expects “a little bit of carnage”. That would be fun.
17:51 — Another interesting name on the start list is ESPN F1 journalist Nate Saunders.
17:49 — For the avoidance of doubt, once any of these 100 karters are passed by Max, their night is over. We do have questions though — what happens if Max passes them all in 10 laps? Pretty damp squib for the Disney+ broadcast.
17:47 — If you’ve ever wondered what a karting grid with 101 drivers on it looks like, it’s wild. Absolutely wild.
17:45 — Pole sitter Martens: “I’m just gonna try and stay in front as long as I can”. Strong strategy. Ferrari take note.
17:42 — It is looking good for our man Jacky Martens — he starts on pole tonight after qualifying fastest earlier today. Also on the front row is Red Bull trail riding star Pol Tarres of Spain. Spanish YouTuber TheGrefg is P4.
17:40 — If you’re wondering about the machinery involved tonight, every single one of these 101 karts are exactly the same. No ADUO here, people.
17:36 — Racing Bulls star Arvid Lindblad took on the role of chaser/Verstappen in the mock race and he couldn’t beat them all. Ouch. He did though manage to pass his UK driving test (the theory bit) earlier this week.
17:35 — Max says the first two laps will be crucial, he’s not wrong of course. Also worth pointing out that the entirety of the 101-strong field each has a ‘fast lap’ — a shortcut where they can make up some time.
Max cannot use his until the second half of the race (Lap 16 onwards) while his 100 rivals can use theirs before that.
17:33 — If you want to know who we are rooting for by the way — that would be Dutch journalist Jacky Martens. A hack who eats kebabs. Imagine he beats Max, what is their next interview like?

‘Max vs 100’ Rules — How Does It Work?
The premise is simple — Verstappen must start last and work his way through a field of 100 drivers.
Every driver he overtakes is eliminated, with the field shrinking as the race unfolds.
For the 100 challengers, the goal is simple: stay ahead of one of the world’s best drivers for as long as possible.
The 100 challengers have one advantage: a fast lap. Each can use one shortcut during the opening half of the race to regain ground when Max closes in.
Verstappen will have a shortcut of his own, but it is locked away until half distance, giving the field the first 15 laps to make the most of their advantage.
Every driver, Verstappen included, will race an identical kart with sealed ballast added for anyone under the minimum weight.
