F1 Italian GP Grid Turned on Its Head as Late Penalties Spark Major S….

The starting grid for the 2026 Italian Grand Prix has undergone a major shake-up after a number of late penalties were applied following qualifying at Monza.

Pierre Gasly will start from a sensational pole position after producing a stunning qualifying performance for Alpine. George Russell will line up alongside him on the front row, while Ferrari have secured a strong starting position at their home race.

 

Charles Leclerc has been promoted to third, with team-mate Lewis Hamilton moving up to fourth. Max Verstappen completes the top five.

 

Oscar Piastri originally qualified third but was handed a three-place grid penalty after being found guilty of impeding Liam Lawson during qualifying. The McLaren driver therefore drops to sixth on the revised grid.

 

Further down the order, there was even more drama involving championship leader Kimi Antonelli. The Mercedes driver has been forced to start from the back after taking a grid penalty linked to power-unit component changes.

 

Alex Albon and Liam Lawson have also received penalties, resulting in further changes to the starting order.

 

The amended grid gives Gasly a huge opportunity to claim a memorable victory at Monza, while Ferrari will be hoping Leclerc and Hamilton can take advantage of their improved positions in front of the passionate home crowd.
