FIA DISQUALIFICATION DRAMA SENDS SHOCKWAVES THROUGH THE ITALIAN GRAND PRIX WEEKEND AS LEWIS HAMILTON FA… 

The Italian Grand Prix weekend has been surrounded by fresh FIA drama at Monza, with Lewis Hamilton once again finding himself at the centre of attention as Ferrari prepares for a crucial home race.

Hamilton arrived at Monza hoping to challenge for victory in front of Ferrari’s passionate home supporters, and the seven-time world champion showed strong pace during the practice sessions.

In final practice on Saturday, Hamilton finished second behind Mercedes driver George Russell. Hamilton’s Ferrari was just 0.226 seconds off Russell’s benchmark, while Max Verstappen followed in third.

The session also produced a tense moment involving Hamilton and Verstappen, with the two drivers coming close while negotiating the high-speed Monza circuit. The incident attracted attention from the stewards, adding another layer of intrigue to an already dramatic weekend.

However, Hamilton was not disqualified from the Italian Grand Prix as a result of that incident.

Instead, one of the major post-qualifying FIA decisions involved McLaren’s Oscar Piastri. The Australian was handed a three-place grid penalty after stewards determined that he had impeded Liam Lawson during qualifying.

Piastri originally qualified third but dropped to sixth following the penalty. The decision promoted Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen by one position each, meaning Hamilton moved up to fourth on the revised grid.

That development is particularly significant for Ferrari, as Hamilton will now start ahead of Piastri and alongside some of the leading championship contenders.

Pierre Gasly created another huge surprise by taking pole position for Alpine, edging Russell by just 0.030 seconds. Gasly’s achievement gave Alpine a remarkable boost at Ferrari’s home race.

The weekend has therefore delivered plenty of FIA controversy, penalties and unexpected changes — but Hamilton remains firmly in contention rather than being disqualified.

With Ferrari chasing a strong result at Monza, Hamilton will be hoping to convert his improved grid position into a major result on race day.
