The 2026 Formula 1 championship standings have been altered once again after the Monaco Grand Prix result was changed for a third time, with Pierre Gasly losing his podium finish following a ruling from the FIA International Court of Appeal.
The Monaco Grand Prix, which took place on June 7, has become one of the most controversial races of the season. Kimi Antonelli originally won the race for Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton finishing second and Gasly crossing the line in third.
However, Gasly had initially been handed two five-second penalties for pit-lane speeding, dropping him to seventh. Alpine later successfully appealed the penalties, resulting in Gasly being restored to third and Isack Hadjar being moved back to fourth.
That decision was then challenged by McLaren and Red Bull. The FIA International Court of Appeal has now upheld the original penalties, meaning Gasly has once again been demoted to seventh and Hadjar has been restored to third.
The latest ruling has significant consequences for the championship. Gasly loses nine points from his tally, while Hadjar gains three points for his restored podium. Oscar Piastri, Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad also move up the Monaco classification and benefit from the redistribution of points.
Despite the dramatic changes, Kimi Antonelli remains firmly at the top of the Drivers’ Championship. The Mercedes youngster entered the season’s later stages as the championship leader after producing an outstanding run of victories, including his dominant Monaco triumph.
Lewis Hamilton also retains second place in the standings, while George Russell and Charles Leclerc continue to occupy the next positions. Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris remain closely matched behind them, with Max Verstappen also involved in the fight further down the order.
The latest Monaco ruling has particularly affected the battle among the midfield teams. Alpine loses valuable points, while Racing Bulls and Red Bull benefit from the revised classification. Alpine has now fallen behind Racing Bulls in the Constructors’ Championship battle, adding another layer of pressure to the team.
With the championship already entering a crucial phase, the Monaco controversy demonstrates just how important every single point can become. And after three separate changes to the same race result, teams and drivers will be hoping the latest classification finally brings an end to the extraordinary saga.
