Max Verstappen has never been known for turning down an opportunity to get behind the wheel of a racing machine, no matter how unusual it may be. From Formula 1 cars to simulators and endurance racing, the Dutch star has built a reputation for loving almost every form of motorsport. However, ahead of the 2026 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Verstappen admitted there is one vehicle he would happily avoid—a LEGO-themed electric go-kart.

As part of Formula 1’s entertainment plans for the British Grand Prix weekend, every driver on the 22-car grid will take part in a special pre-race parade using custom-built LEGO go-karts painted in their respective team colours. The parade is designed to entertain fans and provide a fun, light-hearted moment before the intensity of Sunday’s race.

Although many drivers have embraced the idea, Verstappen was far less enthusiastic about participating.

The four-time world champion explained that he intends to complete the parade with as little fuss as possible before shifting his full attention to the race itself. While he appreciates the opportunity to acknowledge the fans, he would rather stick with the traditional format that Formula 1 has used for years.

According to Verstappen, the classic drivers’ parade remains the better option. He believes there is nothing wrong with being driven around the circuit in an electric truck or another standard parade vehicle, allowing the drivers to greet spectators without the added distraction of driving novelty karts.

He stressed that the final decision is not his to make and accepted that the event would go ahead regardless of his opinion. His focus, he said, is simply to complete the lap, wave to the supporters, and prepare for the main event.

The LEGO parade is expected to create plenty of entertaining moments. Similar activities have produced memorable scenes in previous Formula 1 events, with drivers often joking, bumping into one another, and engaging in playful competition despite the vehicles being far slower than the cars they normally race. The electric karts are capable of only around 25 km/h, making them more about fun than speed.

Many fans are already anticipating friendly rivalries and humorous incidents around the Silverstone circuit, particularly after last year’s successful LEGO-themed activities proved to be a hit with spectators.

Not everyone on the grid shares Verstappen’s reservations. Several of his rivals have welcomed the idea, including reigning world champion Lando Norris.

Norris said he expects the parade to be an enjoyable experience, even if simply reaching the end without any mishaps could be considered an achievement. Reflecting on previous novelty races involving Formula 1 drivers, he joked that surviving the trip back to the starting point might be the biggest victory of all.

The McLaren driver believes the event offers something different from the usual pre-race schedule. While he appreciates the traditional drivers’ parade because it allows everyone to chat and interact with supporters, he also feels that introducing fresh ideas helps keep the sport entertaining for fans.

Norris added that as long as everyone behaves responsibly and keeps things safe, the parade should provide plenty of laughs for both the drivers and the thousands of spectators watching around the circuit.

Formula 1 has increasingly experimented with fan-focused entertainment in recent years, introducing unique experiences alongside the racing action in an effort to make Grand Prix weekends more engaging. The LEGO driver parade is another example of the sport trying to blend competition with family-friendly entertainment.

Whether Verstappen enjoys the experience or not, the Dutchman will undoubtedly switch his attention back to the serious business of racing once the parade ends. His priority remains achieving the best possible result on track, and any pre-race festivities are unlikely to change his approach.

For the fans, however, the LEGO parade promises to be one of the most entertaining moments of the weekend. While some drivers, like Verstappen, may prefer tradition, others are eager to embrace the fun, setting the stage for a memorable build-up before the lights go out at the British Grand Prix.
