Franco Colapinto has been hit with two separate FIA penalties following a dramatic Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, adding further frustration to a difficult weekend for the Alpine driver.

Colapinto was first penalised for overtaking Yuki Tsunoda under double yellow flags during the opening stages of the race, following Max Verstappen’s crash. The incident resulted in a drive-through penalty and two penalty points on his FIA Super Licence.

The Argentine then received another punishment after the stewards ruled that he failed to slow sufficiently for yellow flags at Turn 3. That infringement brought a further 10-second time penalty and one additional penalty point.

The two incidents left Colapinto with four penalty points accumulated over the previous 12 months, putting him eight points away from the threshold for an automatic race ban.

The penalties have also sparked controversy, with Colapinto and representatives of his sponsor questioning the severity of the FIA’s decisions.

Despite the setback, Colapinto completed the race and was classified 14th, bringing a turbulent Dutch Grand Prix weekend to a close.
