   On UK Mothering Sunday, March 15, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton took time away from the F1 paddock to celebrate the women who raised him. Posting on Instagram during the Chinese Grand Prix weekend, Hamilton honored both his biological mum, Carmen Larbalestier, and his stepmum, Linda Hamilton. “Wishing my mum, my stepmum and all mothers out there a happy Mother’s Day. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if not for the love and support of these two women,” he wrote, sharing tender photos and embraces with both. He called them “my home, my team and my lights in my darkest times” and said “I live every day to make them proud”.
   For Hamilton, the “present” wasn’t material — it was time, gratitude, and putting his mums at the center of his world. He recalled how Carmen “would sit with me to study and even when I struggled, her patience gave me hope,” while Linda “always encouraged my creativity and was there for me on and off the track”. He also remembered childhood race weekends: “When I raced in the rain, there would always be a warm fire and noodle soup back at the trailer”. In recent years he’s made the gesture even more personal. He brought Carmen to his first Ferrari test at Fiorano in 2025, where he asked “Are you happy?” and she replied yes — the first time in a long while, he said. He’s also credited Linda for his racing career: “Without her I wouldn’t be the man I am today. I sure as hell wouldn’t be racing”.
Hamilton’s parents split when he was 2, and Carmen made the sacrifice of letting him live with his dad so his racing dream could be funded. That history makes Mother’s Day especially emotional for him. In 2024 he got Carmen on track for her first car launch and put a helmet on her. In 2025 he called her “the first love of my life” and “my everything” on her 70th birthday. This year, having Carmen with him in China and Linda cheering from home, Hamilton closed his message: “Please remember you are appreciated and loved. You are the light in dark times. Thank you for all you do, happy Mother’s Day”. For a driver used to trophies, his most emotional win that weekend was making his mums feel seen.
