Lewis Hamilton has once again become the centre of Formula 1 headlines after Italian media reports claimed that the seven-time world champion is “sulking” and that “something is broken” within Ferrari. The reports have intensified scrutiny of the Scuderia following a series of disappointing performances that have raised fresh questions about the team’s direction and internal harmony.
Ferrari entered the 2026 season with enormous expectations after signing Hamilton, hoping his experience and championship pedigree would help return the iconic Italian team to the top of Formula 1. While the partnership began with optimism and produced encouraging results earlier in the year, recent races have exposed weaknesses in the team’s consistency, strategy, and overall competitiveness. As Ferrari slipped behind its main rivals, frustration inevitably grew around both the drivers and the leadership.
The suggestion that Hamilton is “sulking” comes largely from commentary in sections of the Italian press rather than from any official statement by Ferrari. The term has been used to describe Hamilton’s visibly disappointed demeanour after difficult race weekends in which strategy decisions and missed opportunities cost valuable points. Although the headlines have attracted widespread attention, they remain media interpretations rather than confirmed descriptions from the team itself.
Adding to the speculation is the claim that “something is broken” inside Ferrari. According to the reports, the phrase reflects concerns about the atmosphere within the team as pressure mounts on management to deliver better results. Ferrari’s inability to consistently challenge for victories has led to growing criticism of its race operations and decision-making, particularly during high-pressure moments on race day.
Team principal Fred Vasseur has strongly rejected the rumours surrounding Ferrari’s internal situation. He argued that constant speculation about leadership and disagreements only creates unnecessary distractions for engineers, mechanics, and drivers who are working to improve the car. Vasseur maintained that the team remains united in its objective of returning Ferrari to championship-winning form despite the difficult period.
Hamilton has also attempted to calm the narrative. Rather than criticising Ferrari’s staff, he has publicly stated that his role is to support and motivate the people around him. The British driver dismissed suggestions that he had demanded major personnel changes and insisted that success can only come through collective effort. His comments indicate a desire to strengthen the team rather than deepen divisions during a challenging campaign.
Tension has nevertheless been heightened by on-track incidents involving teammate Charles Leclerc, particularly after Ferrari’s home race in Italy where an aggressive battle between the two drivers compromised the team’s overall result. While both drivers remain committed to competing for Ferrari, such moments have fuelled media speculation about the relationship inside the garage.
For Ferrari, the greatest challenge now is restoring performance rather than responding to dramatic headlines. Whether the Scuderia can solve its technical and strategic problems in the remaining races will determine if the current crisis becomes a temporary setback or a defining chapter in Hamilton’s
