Red Bull have been forced into a major driver change ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix after Isack Hadjar was ruled out of the Zandvoort weekend.

The young Frenchman’s absence has become one of the biggest talking points ahead of Formula 1’s return from the summer break, with Liam Lawson confirmed to step into the Red Bull seat alongside Max Verstappen.

Hadjar had been enjoying an impressive breakthrough season before his injury interrupted his momentum. The Racing Bulls graduate had established himself as a regular points scorer and had become one of the most closely watched young drivers on the Formula 1 grid.

However, a wrist injury suffered during the summer break left him unable to compete at Zandvoort. Red Bull subsequently confirmed that Lawson would take over his RB22 for the Dutch Grand Prix.

The development has also drawn attention from Sky Sports F1 pundit Martin Brundle, who has been following the situation surrounding Hadjar and his expected return to racing.

For Red Bull, the decision represents more than simply finding a temporary replacement. Lawson now has another opportunity to demonstrate that he can perform at the highest level with the senior team.

The New Zealander previously raced for Red Bull before being moved back to Racing Bulls. His return to Verstappen’s side of the garage at Zandvoort gives him another chance to show Red Bull management what he can deliver when placed under the intense pressure of a top team.

Lawson’s promotion has also triggered another change within the Red Bull family. Yuki Tsunoda has been called upon to replace Lawson at Racing Bulls, where he will line up alongside rookie Arvid Lindblad.

Attention, however, remains firmly focused on Hadjar.

The 2025 Dutch Grand Prix holds special significance for the young driver, as it was the venue where he secured his first Formula 1 podium. His forced absence one year later is therefore particularly frustrating.

Red Bull are expected to take a cautious approach with Hadjar’s recovery rather than risk aggravating the injury by bringing him back too soon.

For now, Lawson has the opportunity to seize the moment.

With Verstappen as his teammate and the pressure of a Red Bull seat once again on his shoulders, the Dutch Grand Prix could provide Lawson with one of his biggest opportunities yet.

Meanwhile, Hadjar’s recovery will remain under close observation as fans wait for confirmation of when the young star will be fit enough to return to the grid.
