Lewis Hamilton has provided a reassuring update following a dramatic crash during final practice for the Spanish Grand Prix at Madrid’s new Madring circuit.

The Ferrari driver lost control of his SF-26 at the final corner and hit the barriers, bringing the session to a temporary halt as marshals worked to repair the damaged protection. Hamilton was able to get out of the car and was not reported to have suffered any serious physical injury.

The incident nevertheless caused concern throughout the Ferrari garage and among fans, particularly because the Madring has already developed a reputation as one of the most unforgiving circuits on the 2026 calendar.

Hamilton appeared to lock up before making contact with the barriers. Despite the damage to his Ferrari, he initially attempted to continue driving back towards the pits. Ferrari instructed him to stop the car, and he eventually brought it to a safe halt.

The crash triggered a red flag and disrupted an already difficult final practice session. Hamilton ultimately recorded the ninth-fastest time, while Mercedes youngster Kimi Antonelli topped the session with a lap of 1:32.797. Charles Leclerc finished second, just 0.166 seconds behind his former teammate.

There is currently no indication from the available reports that Hamilton sustained a serious injury or that he is unable to continue his Spanish Grand Prix weekend. The immediate focus is therefore expected to be on Ferrari repairing the damaged car and determining whether any mechanical issues could affect Hamilton’s qualifying preparations.
