Former Formula 1 star Ralf Schumacher has suffered a painful shoulder injury following a jet ski accident in Germany, while a completely separate controversy is developing around Formula 1’s new Madrid circuit.
Schumacher, the younger brother of seven-time F1 world champion Michael Schumacher, was taking part in Stefan Raab’s “Jet Ski Star World Championship” in Duisburg when the accident happened.
The former Williams and Toyota driver was piloting the jet ski with German television personality Stefan Raab as his passenger. The pair reportedly ran into trouble around a buoy before the jet ski capsized.
After initially getting back onto the machine, the situation went wrong again. Schumacher injured his shoulder while attempting to turn the jet ski around, leaving him with a dislocation.
Medical personnel at the event immediately treated Schumacher and successfully put his shoulder back into place. However, further examinations at hospital revealed that the injury was more serious than first expected.
An X-ray and MRI reportedly showed that a small piece of bone had broken away. As a result, Schumacher is expected to undergo a minor operation.
Despite the accident, the former F1 racer has reportedly remained in good spirits. He has also indicated that he would not rule out returning to the event if it is held again.
Meanwhile, Formula 1 is facing another controversy surrounding the new Madrid circuit.
The Madring is scheduled to make its F1 debut when Madrid hosts the Spanish Grand Prix in September 2026. While organisers are preparing for the historic event, opposition from some local residents has intensified.
Critics have raised concerns about noise, health and the disruption that could be caused by hosting a major Formula 1 race in the area. Some opponents have even branded the project “illegal” and are considering legal action.
A campaign group opposing the race is also expected to collect acoustic data during the Grand Prix weekend as part of its efforts to challenge the event.
With Schumacher now preparing for surgery and Madrid facing growing opposition over its new F1 venue, both stories are generating plenty of attention ahead of the next chapter of the 2026 Formula 1 season.
