Ferrari Are Fudging, Hamilton’s F1 Title Bid Is Fading — It’s Time to Make the Call

Lewis Hamilton’s 2026 Formula 1 title challenge is entering a crucial phase, and Ferrari can no longer afford to leave points on the table.

The warning signs were clear at the Dutch Grand Prix. Hamilton finished fourth at Zandvoort, while Charles Leclerc came home fifth, but the Ferrari result could have been stronger. Hamilton believed the team lost valuable time by delaying Leclerc’s pit stop while he was running on a different tyre strategy and appeared to have greater pace.

Hamilton’s frustration was obvious over team radio, and after the race he made it clear that Ferrari needed to be more decisive. He pointed to Mercedes’ handling of a similar situation involving George Russell and championship leader Kimi Antonelli as an example of how quickly a team fighting for the title must react.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur defended the thinking behind the strategy, explaining that the team had deliberately kept some information away from Hamilton because it did not want to reveal its plans to rival teams. However, Vasseur also acknowledged that there was confusion surrounding Leclerc’s stop and that Ferrari would review what happened.

The bigger problem is the championship picture.

Antonelli extended his advantage over Hamilton to 59 points after finishing second at Zandvoort. Hamilton remains firmly in contention with 11 races still remaining, but every missed opportunity becomes increasingly important as the season moves toward its final stages.

That does not mean Hamilton’s title dream is over. Far from it. Ferrari has shown genuine pace, and Hamilton himself praised the improvements made to his car during the Dutch GP weekend. The team also has further development planned, with Monza now providing another major opportunity to close the gap.

But Ferrari now has a decision to make: is it going to operate like a team fighting for individual race results, or like a team fighting for a world championship?

Hamilton has already demonstrated that he can win with Ferrari, taking victory in Barcelona earlier in the season. The issue now is consistency, execution and making the right calls when the margins are tiny.

With Monza next, the pressure will only increase. Ferrari’s home race offers Hamilton and the team a chance to respond immediately.

The title fight is still alive. But if Ferrari continues to surrender points through questionable execution, Hamilton’s eighth-world-title dream could slowly disappear—not because he lacks the pace, but because his team failed to maximise the opportunities in front of him.

The time for Ferrari to make the call is now.
