Lando Norris claimed a dramatic victory at the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, securing his second consecutive Formula 1 win and strengthening McLaren’s momentum after the summer break. The reigning world champion started from pole position and ultimately finished ahead of Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli and George Russell.

The race was interrupted almost immediately when home favourite Max Verstappen crashed on the opening lap. The Red Bull driver lost control of his car and hit the barrier, bringing out the red flag. Verstappen was able to leave the car safely, but his home race ended after just one lap. The incident led to a restart and added another major twist to an already unpredictable afternoon.

When racing resumed, Antonelli produced an excellent getaway and moved ahead of Norris for the lead. The Mercedes driver controlled the race for a significant period, but Norris remained within reach. As the final stages approached, tyre strategy became increasingly important. Norris eventually regained the lead and managed to create enough of a gap to secure victory.

Antonelli crossed the finish line second, 11.536 seconds behind Norris, while Russell completed the podium in third, 15.906 seconds from the winner. Mercedes’ result was helped by a late team-order decision, with Russell allowing Antonelli through after the championship leader had benefited from a Virtual Safety Car pit stop.

Lewis Hamilton finished fourth for Ferrari, narrowly missing out on the podium. Charles Leclerc followed in fifth, while McLaren’s Oscar Piastri completed the top six. Hamilton later expressed frustration with Ferrari’s strategy, believing a different approach could have given him a stronger opportunity to challenge for third place.

Liam Lawson produced an impressive performance for Red Bull, finishing seventh despite receiving a 10-second penalty for a yellow-flag infringement. Nico Hulkenberg finished eighth for Audi, Fernando Alonso was ninth for Aston Martin, and Pierre Gasly completed the points-paying positions in tenth.

Outside the top ten, Yuki Tsunoda finished 11th, followed by Arvid Lindblad and Gabriel Bortoleto. Franco Colapinto was classified 14th, while Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz completed the remaining classified finishers. Colapinto also received a 10-second penalty connected to a yellow-flag infringement, while Sainz was handed a 10-second penalty for causing a collision.

The final classification therefore saw Norris take maximum points, with Antonelli scoring 18 and Russell collecting 15. Hamilton earned 12 points and Leclerc 10, while Piastri added eight.

The Dutch Grand Prix was also notable because it marked the final scheduled Formula 1 race at Zandvoort. The circuit had returned to the calendar in 2021 and quickly became one of the championship’s most popular venues.

With Norris continuing his strong run and Antonelli extending his championship advantage, the Dutch Grand Prix has significantly shaped the 2026 title battle heading into the remaining races of the season.
