Lando Norris has strengthened his Formula 1 championship campaign after securing a superb pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, despite light rain beginning to fall during Saturday’s qualifying session.

With wet weather threatening, several teams sent their drivers onto the circuit early for their final attempts. However, the drizzle remained light enough for most drivers to improve their lap times, with Norris ultimately producing the fastest effort of the session.

George Russell secured second place to complete an all-British front row, while Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli took third. Oscar Piastri qualified fourth, giving McLaren and Mercedes control of the top two rows.

Lewis Hamilton will start fifth after struggling to match the pace of the leaders throughout qualifying. His Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc qualified sixth, putting both Ferrari cars on the third row.

Max Verstappen took seventh for Red Bull, with teammate Liam Lawson following closely behind in eighth. Audi’s Gabriel Bortoleto impressed by qualifying ninth, while Racing Bulls rookie Arvid Lindblad completed the top 10.

Pierre Gasly was the first driver eliminated in Q2, finishing 11th, ahead of Yuki Tsunoda, Nico Hulkenberg, Franco Colapinto and Esteban Ocon.

Alex Albon ended up 16th and was eliminated in Q2, while Williams teammate Carlos Sainz suffered an earlier exit in Q1 and will start 17th.

Aston Martin endured another difficult session, with Fernando Alonso qualifying 18th and Lance Stroll 19th. The team’s expected upgrades failed to provide the performance needed to challenge for the top positions.

Ollie Bearman qualified 20th for Haas, continuing a frustrating weekend for the American outfit. He will line up ahead of Cadillac’s Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez, who occupy 21st and 22nd respectively.
