Just in: FIA Lunch investigation on F1 Star after sprint qualifying…Read more

The FIA has investigated several Formula 1 drivers following Friday’s Sprint Qualifying session at the Dutch Grand Prix after they were suspected of exceeding the prescribed maximum lap time around the Zandvoort circuit.
Among the drivers investigated were Esteban Ocon, Liam Lawson, Arvid Lindblad, Lance Stroll, Gabriel Bortoleto, Max Verstappen, George Russell, Kimi Antonelli, Carlos Sainz, Pierre Gasly and Valtteri Bottas.
The investigations centred on the FIA’s requirement for drivers to remain within the designated 1:28.00 maximum time between the Safety Car lines during the relevant phase of the session. Drivers who exceed the limit can potentially face scrutiny if the stewards believe their slow pace was unjustified or interfered with other competitors.
However, after reviewing the circumstances, the stewards decided that no further action was necessary against the drivers involved. As a result, none of the investigations led to a grid penalty, disqualification or other sporting punishment.
The decision means the Sprint Qualifying results remain unchanged, with George Russell retaining pole position for Saturday’s 100km Sprint. The Mercedes driver produced a 1:11.567 to edge Lando Norris by just 0.041 seconds, while Charles Leclerc completed the front row of the top three.
Kimi Antonelli will start fifth, despite suffering floor damage after an excursion into the gravel earlier in the session, while Max Verstappen qualified sixth and Lewis Hamilton seventh.
The FIA’s decision provides relief for all of the investigated drivers, particularly those involved in the championship battle. With no penalties issued, the Sprint grid remains intact ahead of Saturday’s race.
The focus now turns to the Sprint itself, where Russell will attempt to convert his pole into valuable championship points while Verstappen, Antonelli and Hamilton look to recover positions.
