Max Verstappen Signs Massive New F1 Contract to Stay at Red Bull Until 2030
Max Verstappen has finally put one of Formula 1’s biggest 2026 questions to bed.
Red Bull have confirmed that the four-time world champion has signed a contract extension that will keep him with the team until the end of the 2030 Formula 1 season.
The announcement, made on Thursday ahead of Verstappen’s home Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, brings an end to intense speculation surrounding the Dutchman’s future.
Verstappen chooses Red Bull
Verstappen’s previous agreement was due to run until the end of 2028, but the situation became considerably more complicated because of an exit clause linked to his championship position.
With Red Bull struggling to match the pace of their leading rivals under the 2026 regulations, Verstappen’s future became one of the central stories of the F1 silly season.
Mercedes had been repeatedly linked with a move for the Dutchman, while McLaren was also mentioned as a potential destination.
Ultimately, however, Verstappen has chosen loyalty over a blockbuster change of scenery.
The 28-year-old has been part of Red Bull’s F1 operation since his promotion from Toro Rosso and made an immediate impact by winning the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix on his debut for the senior team.
Since then, he has become the cornerstone of Red Bull’s modern era, claiming four consecutive Drivers’ Championships between 2021 and 2024.
A major vote of confidence in Red Bull
The decision is particularly significant because Red Bull have endured a difficult 2026 campaign.
The RB22 has struggled to deliver the level of performance Verstappen became accustomed to during his championship-winning years, leaving the Dutchman outside the title fight for much of the season.
Yet Verstappen has now committed himself to the team through 2030, signalling his belief that Red Bull can recover and return to championship-winning form.
“I am really pleased with the contract extension,” Verstappen said, stressing his excitement about continuing to work with the team and helping them “get back to the top again”.
He also described Red Bull as a “second family” and highlighted the trust between himself and the organisation.
That relationship could prove crucial as Red Bull attempts to rebuild its competitive advantage.
Laurent Mekies era receives major boost
The announcement is also a huge vote of confidence in team principal Laurent Mekies, who is overseeing Red Bull’s next chapter.
Verstappen praised the direction of the team under Mekies and said he sees a clear vision for the future.
For Red Bull, retaining a driver of Verstappen’s calibre provides a clear foundation around which the team can build its next generation of cars and technology.
It also removes the uncertainty that had surrounded the driver market and allows the team to focus squarely on closing the performance gap.
Verstappen’s future is finally settled
The announcement will also have major consequences across the F1 driver market.
Mercedes and McLaren will no longer have Verstappen’s name hanging over their respective line-ups, while other drivers who had been linked with potential moves can now assess their futures with greater clarity.
For Red Bull, meanwhile, the message is unmistakable: Verstappen remains the man around whom the team intends to build its future.
The Dutchman has already achieved almost everything imaginable with Red Bull, but the latest contract shows that his ambition has not disappeared.
Now the challenge is clear.
Red Bull must give Verstappen a car capable of fighting for victories and championships again. With the four-time world champion committed until 2030, the pressure to deliver will be greater than ever.
The biggest domino of the 2026 silly season has fallen — Max Verstappen is staying at Red Bull.
