Red Bull Forced Into Dutch GP Shake-Up as Isack Hadjar Faces Injury Absence

Isack Hadjar is reportedly set to miss the Dutch Grand Prix after suffering a wrist injury, triggering a major driver reshuffle involving Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda.

Red Bull are facing a late driver headache ahead of this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix, with Isack Hadjar reportedly set to miss the Zandvoort race after suffering a wrist injury.

The 21-year-old Frenchman is understood to have picked up the injury during a gym training session, according to respected Dutch publication De Telegraaf. His absence would force Red Bull into an unexpected reshuffle just days before the return of Formula 1 action following the summer break.

Lawson handed Red Bull return

Should Hadjar be ruled out, Liam Lawson is expected to step back into the senior Red Bull seat alongside four-time world champion Max Verstappen.

Lawson has already experienced life at Red Bull, having raced for the team twice at the beginning of 2025 before being demoted back to Racing Bulls.

However, his performances during the first half of the 2026 campaign have strengthened his case for another opportunity with the senior team.

The New Zealander has scored 43 points so far this season and sits immediately behind Hadjar in the championship standings, making his temporary promotion a logical choice for Red Bull.

Tsunoda set for Racing Bulls return

Lawson’s move would create a vacancy at Racing Bulls, with Yuki Tsunoda reportedly in line to return to a race seat.

The Japanese driver currently serves as a test and reserve driver for Red Bull and Racing Bulls after losing his place with the senior team to Hadjar.

Tsunoda could therefore make a temporary return alongside British youngster Arvid Lindblad, providing Racing Bulls with an experienced hand while Lawson takes his place at the main team.

Major blow for Hadjar

For Hadjar, the timing could hardly be worse.

The young Frenchman has enjoyed an impressive 2026 season and currently sits eighth in the drivers’ championship with 41 points separating him from Verstappen.

His performances have established him as an increasingly important part of Red Bull’s future plans, making an injury-enforced absence particularly frustrating.

Red Bull will also be hoping the injury is not serious enough to threaten Hadjar’s participation beyond Zandvoort, with the championship battle entering a crucial phase.

Practice for the Dutch Grand Prix begins on Friday, August 21, before the race takes place on Sunday, August 23.

If Hadjar is officially ruled out, the reshuffle will provide Lawson with another chance to prove he belongs at the front of the Red Bull operation — while Tsunoda will have an opportunity to remind the team exactly what it may have lost.
