Just in: Lewis Hamilton Handed Major Boost as Kimi Antonelli faces Grid penalty at Monza…Read more

Lewis Hamilton has been handed a major boost ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, while championship leader Kimi Antonelli faces a difficult challenge after suffering a significant setback at Monza.
Ferrari arrives at its home race with renewed optimism after introducing a power-unit upgrade for the Italian Grand Prix. The development is expected to give the team additional performance as Hamilton and Charles Leclerc prepare to take on their rivals at the famous Temple of Speed.
Hamilton has made no secret of his belief that Ferrari can fight for victory at Monza. The seven-time world champion will be hoping the latest engine development can help him deliver the kind of result Ferrari’s passionate home supporters have been waiting for.
The timing could hardly be more important for Hamilton’s championship ambitions.
The Ferrari driver enters the weekend level on points with Mercedes’ George Russell, while Antonelli leads the championship. However, the Italian’s advantage could be reduced considerably after Mercedes confirmed that he will take a grid penalty at his home Grand Prix.
Antonelli has exceeded his permitted power-unit allocation, forcing Mercedes to introduce another engine. As a result, the young Italian is expected to start from the back of the grid, turning what should have been a hugely anticipated home race into a major recovery mission.
The setback is particularly painful given Antonelli’s outstanding season so far. The Mercedes driver has emerged as one of the leading contenders for the 2026 world championship and has already collected six victories.
Nevertheless, Antonelli has refused to let the penalty affect his confidence. Instead, he believes starting from the rear could actually remove some of the pressure because he will have little to lose during Sunday’s race.
His biggest challenge will be finding a way through the field quickly. Monza’s long straights provide opportunities for overtaking, but recovering enough positions to remain competitive in the championship will require an exceptional performance.
For Hamilton, Antonelli’s setback represents a valuable opportunity.
If Ferrari can maximise its upgraded power unit and Hamilton converts the advantage into a strong result, he could make significant progress in the championship battle.
With Ferrari’s engine upgrade, Hamilton’s title ambitions and Antonelli facing a huge recovery drive, the Italian Grand Prix has already produced a compelling storyline before the lights go out.
