F1 Star Ralf Schumacher Injured in Jet Ski Accident After Boat Capsizes

Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher has suffered a shoulder injury following an accident during a jet ski event in Duisburg, Germany.

The six-time Grand Prix winner was taking part in the Jet Ski Star World Championship when the incident occurred. Schumacher was riding alongside passenger Stefan Raab when their vessel capsized several times, resulting in Schumacher being thrown into the water and injuring his right shoulder.

According to reports, Schumacher initially suffered a dislocated shoulder. Medical examinations later revealed that the accident had also caused a small bone fracture, meaning he will require minor surgery to repair the injury.

The former Williams, Jordan and Toyota driver explained that the incident happened quickly and that members of the event team immediately assisted him. His shoulder was put back into position at the scene before he underwent further medical examinations, including an X-ray and MRI.

Despite the setback, Schumacher has remained positive about his recovery. He is expected to undergo a short surgical procedure and believes the injury will not prevent him from carrying out his television commitments at the upcoming Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

Schumacher, who now works as an F1 analyst for Sky Sports Germany, even managed to make light of the situation. He joked that he would simply have to use his left hand to hold his microphone while recovering from the injury.

The former racing driver also suggested that the cold conditions may have contributed to the incident. Rather than blaming the event organisers, Schumacher made clear that he did not believe they were responsible for what happened and indicated that he would be willing to participate again if the event is held in the future.

Schumacher enjoyed an 11-season Formula 1 career between 1997 and 2007. During that period, he raced for Jordan, Williams and Toyota, competing in 180 Grands Prix. He recorded six victories, six pole positions and 27 podium finishes before moving into other areas of motorsport and broadcasting.

His latest accident comes just days before Formula 1 heads to Monza for the Italian Grand Prix. Schumacher is expected to recover in time to return to his broadcasting duties, although he will have to manage his injured right shoulder.

For the former F1 winner, the incident represents an unexpected interruption away from the racing circuit. Nevertheless, his positive outlook and expectation of returning to work suggest that the injury is not expected to keep him away from the sport for an extended period.

The focus now will be on Schumacher’s recovery following surgery and whether he can make his planned appearance at Monza as an F1 television analyst.
