F1 Sprint Qualifying Results: Lewis Hamilton disaster as Russell Claims Dutch GP Pole…Read more

George Russell delivered a stunning performance in Friday’s Sprint Qualifying at Zandvoort, securing pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix Sprint while several of his major championship rivals endured difficult sessions.

The Mercedes driver emerged on top after an incredibly tight battle at the front, with just a fraction separating the leading contenders. Lando Norris qualified second, while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc took third and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri completed the second row in fourth.

Kimi Antonelli finished fifth, around a quarter of a second behind Russell. The young Mercedes driver had earlier endured a tense moment when he ran across the gravel, but he recovered to secure a strong position on the Sprint grid.

Lewis Hamilton, however, suffered a disappointing session. Driving an upgraded Ferrari, the seven-time world champion could manage only seventh place. He was more than six-tenths of a second slower than Russell and also finished over half a second behind Ferrari teammate Leclerc.

Hamilton’s deficit will raise concerns as he attempts to recover ground in the championship battle. With the leading four drivers separated by less than a tenth of a second, the significant gap between Hamilton and the front of the field was particularly striking.

The result represents another difficult qualifying session for Hamilton, who will now face a challenging task in Saturday’s Sprint. Ferrari will hope its upgrades can deliver stronger race pace and allow the British driver to fight his way forward.

Russell, meanwhile, will start the Sprint from the best possible position as Mercedes looks to convert its qualifying advantage into a strong result at Zandvoort.

With the championship fight intensifying, the Dutch Grand Prix Sprint could prove important for both the title contenders and their teams. Hamilton will be looking for a major turnaround, while Russell, Norris, Leclerc and Piastri will all have an opportunity to gain valuable points from the front of the grid.
