Red Bull Confirm Liam Lawson as Isack Hadjar Replacement for Dutch Grand Prix
Red Bull Racing have confirmed a late change to their driver line-up for this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix, with Isack Hadjar ruled out of the event because of a wrist injury.
Hadjar, who is competing for Red Bull alongside Max Verstappen during the 2026 Formula 1 season, sustained the injury during the summer break. The team confirmed on Wednesday that the French driver will not be fit enough to compete at Zandvoort.
In his absence, Liam Lawson will return to the senior Red Bull team for the Dutch Grand Prix. The New Zealander, who currently races for Racing Bulls, will step into the RB22 and partner Verstappen for the weekend.
The unexpected switch represents another opportunity for Lawson at Red Bull. He previously raced for the main team at the beginning of the 2025 season before returning to Racing Bulls. His temporary promotion this weekend gives him another chance to demonstrate his ability in the senior team.
The change also creates a knock-on effect at Racing Bulls. With Lawson moving up to Red Bull, reserve driver Yuki Tsunoda will return to the Formula 1 grid and take Lawson’s place alongside rookie Arvid Lindblad for the Dutch Grand Prix.
For Hadjar, the timing is particularly unfortunate. Zandvoort has already played an important role in his Formula 1 career, as he secured his first F1 podium at the circuit in 2025 while racing for Racing Bulls. He will now have to concentrate on recovering from the wrist problem before returning to competition.
Red Bull have wished Hadjar a quick recovery while thanking Lawson for stepping in at short notice. The team will therefore head into the Dutch Grand Prix with Verstappen and Lawson representing the senior squad.
The situation adds an unexpected storyline to the Dutch Grand Prix weekend, with Lawson suddenly handed a return to one of Formula 1’s biggest teams and Tsunoda getting another opportunity to compete at the highest level.
Hadjar’s absence is expected to be temporary, meaning the Frenchman remains part of Red Bull’s 2026 campaign. For now, however, the spotlight will be on Lawson as he takes over the RB22 and prepares to race alongside Verstappen at Zandvoort.
