Cadillac Makes Shock F1 Leadership Change as Team Principal Replaced
Cadillac has made a major leadership change during the Formula 1 summer break, announcing the departure of team principal Graeme Lowdon and confirming Marcin Budkowski as his replacement.
The decision comes just months after Cadillac made its long-awaited F1 debut as the sport’s 11th team. Lowdon played a key role in building the project from the ground up and was appointed team principal before the team’s entry into the championship.
However, Cadillac has now decided to begin a new chapter under Budkowski, who brings more than two decades of Formula 1 experience. The Polish engineer has previously worked with major teams including Ferrari, McLaren and Renault/Alpine, giving him extensive experience on both the technical and management sides of F1.
Cadillac’s first season has been challenging. The American outfit has struggled to fight near the midfield and remains without a championship point, with reliability also proving to be an issue. The leadership change therefore represents a significant attempt to accelerate the team’s development and improve its competitive performance.
Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss praised Lowdon’s contribution to establishing the team, while making it clear that the organisation is now entering a different phase. Budkowski is expected to focus heavily on extracting greater performance from the car while helping Cadillac develop into a stronger long-term contender.
Budkowski’s first race in charge will come at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. His immediate challenge will be to turn Cadillac’s promising foundations into results as the team enters the second half of its debut F1 campaign.
The leadership switch is one of the biggest surprises of the summer break and could signal a more aggressive approach from Cadillac as it looks to establish itself in Formula 1.
