Lewis Hamilton has received strong backing from an F1 world champion after facing renewed criticism over his decision to continue competing into his 40s.
Questions about Hamilton’s future have grown louder since his last world title, with some critics suggesting age has caught up with the seven-time champion. However, his supporters argue that his achievements and experience continue to make him one of Formula 1’s elite drivers.
Hamilton burst onto the F1 scene in 2007 with McLaren at just 22 years old, delivering one of the most remarkable rookie seasons in the sport’s history. He narrowly missed out on the championship by a single point to Kimi Räikkönen and finished level on points with then two-time reigning champion Fernando Alonso, whose departure from McLaren followed at the end of that season.
Just a year later, Hamilton secured his first world championship, beginning a legendary career that has since produced seven drivers’ titles and a record 106 Grand Prix victories, cementing his place among Formula 1’s all-time greats.
Despite his extraordinary success, Hamilton came under increased scrutiny after signs of inconsistency emerged during the 2025 season. His highly anticipated switch from Mercedes to Ferrari was expected to revive his championship ambitions, but the partnership endured a difficult start once the initial excitement faded.
As Ferrari struggled to meet expectations, speculation intensified over whether Hamilton’s best years were behind him. However, a fellow Formula 1 champion has dismissed those concerns, insisting that seeing Hamilton return to winning form would be a major boost for both Ferrari and the sport as a whole.
