Alexandra Eala Receives ITF Grand Slam Player Development Grant for 2024 Season
Filipino tennis prodigy Alexandra Eala has been awarded a USD 25,000 grant from the International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) Grand Slam Player Development Programme for the 2024 season. This marks the third consecutive year that Eala has received this prestigious grant, highlighting her consistent growth and potential on the global tennis stage.
The Grand Slam Player Development Programme was established in 1986 through the collaboration of the four Grand Slam tournaments and the ITF. Its goal is to provide financial support to talented players from developing tennis nations. These grants help athletes cover the substantial costs involved in international competition, including travel, coaching, and training. Since its launch, the program has distributed over USD 60 million to help cultivate emerging talents worldwide.
Currently ranked No. 184 in the world, Eala expressed her appreciation for the grant, recognizing its critical role in her career. “The grant I have received from the ITF Development Fund has definitely furthered my progress in tennis,” she said. “Tennis is a financially demanding sport, which is why I’m so grateful for their continued support.”
Eala’s recent results reflect her upward trajectory. She reached the quarterfinals at the W50 Indore event in India after a tough three-set victory over Russian player Ekaterina Yashina. In doubles, she captured her first WTA title alongside Latvian partner Darja Semenistaja at the W50 event in Pune.
With this continued backing from the ITF, Eala is well-positioned to advance her professional journey, bringing pride to the Philippines and setting a powerful example for aspiring tennis players across th
e region.
