Man Utd Stars Urge Ruben Amorim to Hand Veteran player a Chance

Manchester United players have reportedly urged manager Ruben Amorim to place his trust in veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton, with calls growing for the experienced shot-stopper to play a more prominent role this season.

United’s squad is believed to have sent a clear message after a turbulent start to the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, which currently sees the Red Devils sitting ninth in the table. Amorim’s side earned their first league victory of the season over the weekend, edging past Burnley 3-2 at Old Trafford thanks to a late Bruno Fernandes penalty in stoppage time.

The result provided Amorim with some breathing space following a rocky run of form, but questions remain over United’s goalkeeping situation.

Onana and Bayindir Under Pressure

Andre Onana missed United’s pre-season through injury, which opened the door for Altay Bayindir to earn first-team minutes. However, the Turkish international has struggled to cement his place, while Onana himself has failed to convince since returning to action.

Amorim has publicly defended Bayindir despite errors, but according to The Sun, several United players believe Tom Heaton deserves an opportunity ahead of both keepers.

“Judging it on performances in training, some of the lads think Tom deserves a chance,” a source told the paper. “He’s very experienced, looks after himself, and is a key member of the squad. The other two are both struggling at the moment, so why not give Tom a go?”

Heaton’s Influence at Old Trafford

Now 39 years old, Heaton extended his United contract in the summer and remains a respected figure in the dressing room. The former England international, who rejoined United in 2021 after leaving Aston Villa, continues to play an important leadership role within the squad.

While Amorim could turn to Heaton as a short-term solution, the club are also exploring long-term options. United have been linked with Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, suggesting Heaton’s involvement may remain temporary.

For now, though, the experienced stopper represents a reliable alternative as Amorim looks to steady United’s campaign.
