The Toronto Blue Jays have made significant changes to their coaching staff following a disappointing 2024 season that saw the team finish last in the AL East with a 74–88 record.

Don Mattingly, who served as both bench coach and offensive coordinator, has been reassigned back to a full-time bench coach role for the 2025 season. General Manager Ross Atkins emphasized Mattingly’s positive impact and adaptability, noting his enthusiasm for contributing in a different capacity .

However, other coaching staff members have not been retained. Hitting coach Guillermo Martinez, field coordinator Gil Kim, and assistant pitching coach Jeff Ware have all departed following a season where the Blue Jays ranked 23rd in runs scored, 26th in home runs, and 19th in team batting average .

In a related move, Matt Hague, who served as the assistant hitting coach in 2024, has left the organization to become the Pittsburgh Pirates’ new hitting coach. Hague’s departure follows the hiring of David Popkins as the Blue Jays’ new hitting coach .

These changes reflect the Blue Jays’ commitment to revitalizing their coaching staff and improving performance in the upcoming season.
