Just in: FIA Announce Max Verstappen Investigation After Lewis Hamilton Incident at Singapore GP… See Details

Max Verstappen was put under investigation by FIA stewards at the Singapore Grand Prix following an incident with Lewis Hamilton.

Verstappen is back in action after winning last weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix — his first win of the season — but was quickly in trouble at Marina Bay.

During first qualifying for the sprint race on Friday, Verstappen allegedly breached yellow flag rules after passing Hamilton following Sergio Perez damaging his front wing and leaving debris on the track.

The session was then red-flagged, with Verstappen confirmed to be investigated after the session.

Verstappen Under FIA Investigation

The FIA confirmed the investigation, calling for the Red Bull star to visit the stewards at 10:15 p.m. local time (3:15 p.m. UK time).

In addition, Hamilton, who reported the incident of Verstappen passing him under yellow flags, will also see the stewards at the same time to give his side of the story.

Hamilton said during the incident on his Ferrari team radio:

“Max overtook me under a yellow flag.”

Verstappen commented on his Red Bull radio:

“I let Lewis by again, because it was a bit tricky. I think I passed him before the yellow, but I just want to be safe.”

If found guilty, the four-time world champion could face a five-place grid penalty in the sprint.

That will be a huge blow for the Dutchman, who put in a supreme lap to take sprint pole from Hamilton’s Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc.
